RULES OF COMPETITION

Events are conducted under IAAF rules except where modified by World Masters Athletics, Australian Masters Athletics or Victorian Masters Athletics. Details of these modifications are listed on pages 46 and 47 of the 2008 AMA handbook.

At VMA medal events competitors must wear the correct competition singlet to be eligible to receive a medal. In events conducted in conjunction with Athletics Victoria championships then a competitor participating in both the AV and VMA events will need to wear the uniform of their first claim AV club.

WA/IAAF Rule 230 Applies to Race Walk Championships

“Race Walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground, so that no visible (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg shall be straightened (i.e. not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the vertical upright position.”

D & C BROWNE Shield and Individual Competitions

Introduced in 2007 these competitions are held over the winter months. The Browne Shield is an inter venue competition and is conducted over the following events: 10k track run, 10k cross country, 10k Eric Greaves Memorial road run, 10 miles, and half marathon.

Individual competitions are also held over the same events. Points are awarded on an age graded percentage basis. The individual competitions are awarded to the male and female competitors with the highest aggregate totals for the season using their four highest scoring performances. The scoring for the inter venue competition is the three highest scoring competitors from a venue (male or female) count for points.
