The 2013 VMA 10 Mile Road Championships were run at Princes Park in fine, cool and mildly gusty conditions, on Sunday 25th August 2013.
The results, in general, show performances of a very high standard. Shane Draper (fastest time), Lavinia Petrie and Ewen Wilson were the standouts, but a further five runners exceeded the 80% age-graded performance level.
Many thanks to the Aberfeldie Venue and all helpers who contributed to a very well run and enjoyable event. View photos of the event. The full report follows . . .
REPORT
VMA 10 MILE CHAMPIONSHIPS
PRINCES PARK – 25 August 2013
In reasonably good running conditions forty six runners assembled at Princes park to run VMA’s 10 Mile Championship event. The event, hosted by Aberfeldie Venue is the fourth in the five series Browne Shield competition and this year attracted excellent participant numbers and competition. It was also pleasing that ten of the fourteen VMA Venues were represented.
For the third consecutive year Aberfeldie’s Shane Draper (M40) won the event in a personal best time of 60.50 and close on Shane’s heels around the five lap course and second over the line was Ben Jordan 37 seconds behind in 61.27. In third place in 62.59 was Ewen Wilson from Glen Eira venue with an excellent Age Graded percentage of 87.32.
Anna Kasapis (W35) lead the women’s race from start to finish and after five laps of solo running crossed the finish line in an excellent time of 64.23 placing her in fifth place overall. Anna’s time is the fastest time since Bronwen Cardy’s 63.53 in 2008. Coming home in second place was Lavinia Petrie in 73.59 and third Helen Stanley in 76.14.
Notwithstanding the excellent finishing times there were a number of outstanding Age Graded performances on the day with the highest percentage of 99.39 being that of Club Captain Lavinia Petrie. Other Age Graded percentages worthy of mention are:
Ewen Wilson 87.32Ralph Bennett 81.34
