The 2011 Browne Shield has been completed following the running of the 10 mile Road Race and the VMA Half Marathon. Once again, Knox Venue has come out as the winner but this time by only 13.15 points from Aberfeldie. As usual it was the brilliant work of Lavinia Petrie that swung the balance in Knox’s favor with four superb efforts. Aberfeldie were dominant in the Men’s competition with Ernie Stewart, Bill Page and Shayne Draper all in the top five. Paul Twining being the top Knox male at No 12.
In the Individual Men’s competition, Andrew Edwards of Glen Eira won for the second consecutive year from a very consistent Ernie Stewart. Bill Page, still running beautifully at 80 years, was third.
Naturally, Lavinia won the Womens section, but behind her Petrina Trowbridge was the second best points scorer in the whole competition. Bronwen Cardy was third in spite of only doing three events.
This was perhaps Knox’s most vulnerable year with Bert Pelgrim not competing through injury, but as we all know, anything can happen in this event.
