East Burwood

Our East Burwood venue (Bill Sewart Athletics Track, behind Nunawading Basketball Stadium, Burwood Highway) hosts events every Thursday from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, followed by supper.

The current program for East Burwood is available for download below. It includes throwing field events as well as sprint races, middle distance, and walking races.

You are welcome to come and participate free for two weeks before joining VMA. As a member of VMA you can participate in events at any of the venues for a very low cost ($5 anytime you attend!)

Track events include walks, sprints, middle distance runs, long distance runs (up to 6km).  There is also usually a field event each week (e.g shotput, javelin, discus and long jump). There are traditional and non-traditional athletic events. Many events have handicapping or are events nearest to competitor’s nominated time/distance, to cater for all abilities.

Opportunities exist for team events (inter-venue and state wide competitions) too. Social long distance runs (7-10+km) are also held weekly, most Sunday mornings (7:30am start) from a nearby location.

Programmes are set for each quarter of the year and may vary at short notice if heavy rain disrupts events.

$5 entry cost for, each attendance, to cover track related costs. Please bring a debit/credit card if possible.

Free entry for two sessions for prospective members to get a feel for the activity before they decide if they want to sign up as a VMA member.

Plenty of encouragement and informal advice available on the night.

Participants are able to do their own training during our sessions.

Formal coaching isn’t currently available via VMA currently although private coaches (not connected to VMA) sometimes offer such services at our track. They can be contacted separately.

There is a a chance for socialising over supper after the athletics events conclude each Thursday evening.

Social long distance runs (7-10+km) are also held weekly, most Sunday mornings (7:30am start) from a nearby location with a coffee catch-up afterwards. Many also catch up at various parkruns (5km run or walk) socially on a Saturday morning.
