The winter season for 2012 kicked off with the 10k track run at Collingwood venue on Tuesday May 15th in near perfect conditions. 41 starters set off for the 25 laps journey which is always a test of patience and endurance. There were a number of strong performances on the night but one stand out effort from Lavinia Petrie whose time of 43.57 gave her an age graded % of 101.94.
Amazing as this performance is it is actually about a lap behind the 42.07 W65 world record run by Theresia Baird at Collingwood in 2007. Lavinia is now 68 and if she can maintain the same level of fitness for another 2 years will certainly take a big chunk off the W70 world record. Understandably her percentage has given Knox a useful lead in The Browne Shield which is otherwise very evenly placed with Collingwood and Aberfeldie separated by less than a point with Glen Eira not far back in 4th place..
Back to the races and fastest woman overall was Heather Gaunt (W40) from Collingwood with 43.51 with Lavinia just 6 seconds behind and Kylie Doyle also W40 from Collingwood 3rd in 46.36. In the men’s race Shane Draper (M35) lapped the field to win in 35.51 from Tony Dell (M45) Croydon 38.11 and Steven Barker (M50) 38.32.
From an age-graded perspective the best performers were:
- Lavinia Petrie 101.94%
- Petrina Trowbridge 82.26%
- Judy Wines 80.49% in the women’s event.
In the men’s race the standout efforts came from:
- Ted Paulin 82.42%
- Ernie Stewart 82.24%
- Steven Barker 80.06%.
