With the completion of the 10 miles run at Princes Park, competition in both the men’s and women’s section has opened up quite a bit. In the women’s section Lavinia Petrie did not run and Petrina Trowbridge who put in another very solid performance (83.07%) has taken the outright lead. However, as competitors can drop their poorest score then Lavinia will still win if she finishes the half marathon. Highest age grade percentage on the day went to Bronwen Cardy with 91.33% and it is good to see her running well again.
In the men’s section . . . Ernie Stewart did not complete the distance and this has opened up a number of possibilities. As shown in the latest results, former winner Paul Twining has taken the overall lead by less than one point from Tony Dell however Ernie would most likely overhaul them with a good run in the half. Steven Barker and Peter Black also are still in contention even though they didn’t run the 10 miles. It all comes down to the last race which is what we like to see. A special mention to Ralph Bennett who had the highest age grade percentage of the men with 82.82%. Two months ago Ralph set a new Australian 20kms M70 Walk record breaking a mark that had stood for around 30 years and as our webmaster he is quite an allrounder.
In the venues section Aberfeldie outscored Knox on this occasion but it won’t be enough to make up the deficit provided that Knox have 3 finishers in the half.
